Welcome to Term 1 at Ashford Oaks. We hope your child has a wonderful start to their learning journey.
If you have any concerns or questions about your child starting or returning to school please do not hesitate to contact us. We looking forward to getting to know your child and their family.
PHASE 1 (NURSERY, RECEPTION & Y1)
We believe every child is unique and we are committed to providing a happy, safe, stimulating environment for all children to play, learn and develop. Children and their families are at the heart of everything we do. We know that young children learn best through inspired, quality self-chosen play opportunities. Throughout the year children will be engaged in a balance of play and teacher directed activities.
Gemma Rayner phase leader
During child initiated time the children will be exposed to a huge spectrum of engaging activities including role play, story sharing, art, music and cooking both indoors and out!
Each child has a key person who will capture your child’s progress and learning in their online “Learning Journal”. This is like a photo album of your child’s journey. We also encourage you to contribute to this as often as you wish via the website.
Children who will be in Nursery will be learning about building up relationships with staff and their peers, developing their confidence and continuing their learning journey that began at home. They will have lots of child initiated opportunities but also adult guided sessions such as learning about counting, numbers, shapes, the love of books, talking opportunities and learning to listen for sounds and playing with words.
Reception children will build upon their children’s pre-school experiences. They will have a balance of child initiated activities and adult guided sessions. This is when they will learn in a fun and exciting way about maths, phonics, reading and writing.
Children who will be in Year One will be building on their experiences of Nursery and Reception. Child initiated will continue but the children will be exposed to learning opportunities guided by the National Curriculum. They will continue their journey of phonics, maths, reading and writing but also learn about Science, History, Geography, Music, P.E, Art, Design and Technology and Computing and ICT.
We hope that your child will enjoy their time at Ashford Oaks. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to us. We are continually evaluating our practices to ensure we are providing the most effective provision. We welcome any comments or suggestions, which could help us to do this.
