Geography prepares young people with the knowledge, skills and understanding to make sense of their world and to face the challenges that will shape our societies and environments at the local, national and global scales. The teaching of Geography at Ashford Oaks aims to inspire curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will stay with them for the rest of their lives by expanding horizons out of the local community. Our world is ever-changing and Geographical enquiry needs to reflect the dynamic nature of people and places, with exploration being based on ‘the real’ and relevant, wherever possible. The curriculum has been incorporated into ‘Projects’.

Geography is part of the ‘Explore’ theme in terms 3 and 4, however, there are lots of cross-curricular opportunities with this subject throughout the year which include the skills mapped out for each year group. We use the opportunity for each of our classes, named after local villages, to visit their respective village each year to compare to our local area. Our vision is that Ashford Oaks pupils leave with an increased confidence and understanding of Geographical facts and vocabulary, as well as the skills to explore their world and become responsible and valued citizens in our society.
