Science at Ashford Oaks

Our Science curriculum is based on the 2014 National Curriculum, supported by the Kent Primary Science Scheme of Work, which ensures the coverage of the subjects and topics as outlined in the statutory guidance. Understanding of key ideas in science is built on across the key stages and a progression of skills and knowledge allows pupils to move from early observations and exploration, to considered questioning and drawing out of ideas. Science is taught as a discrete subject each term, but can be incorporated into the wider ‘Project’ learning where necessary. At Ashford Oaks, our vision for science is to provide a curriculum which offers the children the opportunity to be inquisitive about the world so that they have a deeper knowledge and understanding of the environment in which they live. We aim to nurture children’s curiosity through practical experiences that inspire questions and enquiry. Our aim is that these stimulating and challenging experiences help secure and extend their scientific knowledge and vocabulary. We believe that these opportunities will ensure that our children are confident, life-long learners who continue to have an active role in science.
