At Ashford Oaks, we follow the Sing Up music scheme, which is aligned to the National Curriculum for Music. Each year group has different units of lessons to follow based around different themes, which help the children develop their music skills. Through Sing Up music lessons, children develop skills in:
-
Singing
-
Playing
-
Listening
-
Appraising
-
Improvising
-
Composing
Children also learn to play different musical instruments throughout their time at Ashford Oaks. These are percussion instruments, recorders and ukuleles.
We are proud to be a singing school. We use Sing Up to learn songs both through our music lessons and cross curricular. We understand the importance of singing for mental health, language development and memory. We sing for pleasure in classes as part of our daily routine.
The children at Ashford Oaks also have the opportunity to join the school choir or musical theatre club.
Here is our music development plan, which details what we do as a school and some plans for the future.
